Research a Cartoonist.
Research and create a Powerpoint that highlights a cartoonist.
Research a Cartoonist of the Past.
Research Carl Ed of early 20th century. He created Harold Teen in
May 4, 1919. He coined many slang words and phrases that caught
on. How does the slang differ from then to now. You might view a
Harold Teen feature movie free on Youtube. Another question: how
does media influence slang yesterday and today. Do you know of any
cartoonists or cartoons that influence slang today?
Cartoonist Role-Play.
Create a video. Dress up as your favorite cartoonist. Research that
cartoonist, create a script interview, and be interviewed by another
student(s).
Skype a Cartoonist/Author.
Many authors, including cartoonists, will skype an interview about
their latest book. Prepare a list of questions.
Invite a Local Cartoonist to the Classroom.
Cartoonist presentation with questions after. The cartoonist might
do a mini cartoon lesson. Invite the media.
Through a Cartoonist Lens.
Visit an art museum with a sketchbook. Some art is narrative and
tells a story. Select a painting and create your interpretation
in a quick sketch comic strip. Back in the classroom the student
will find a cartoonist that the painting narrative style reminds
them of. It might be from a genre comic, gag comic panel, comic
strip, or a comic book.
